Walking Peru
Take a Peru adventure deep into the jungle and stay in a lantern-lit Amazon lodge. Trek to Machu Picchu, one of the man-made wonders of the world, and meet locals in the charming villages you stay in along the way. There will also be the opportunity to explore Cusco, Peru’s cultural heart and home to fascinating museums and galleries. Peru is the perfect country for active travellers. Hiking the rolling, grassy slopes and Sacred Valleys of the Incas are particular highlights.
UK - Lima
Your active Peru adventure begins in Lima. Flanked by the Pacific Ocean, you’ll be greeted by views of vivid blues as you fly into the airport. From here, we’ll take you straight to the sophisticated sea-view neighbourhood of Miraflores, where you can watch the kite-surfers play over a welcoming sunset and enjoy a Pisco sour, the Peruvian national cocktail.
Lima - Reserva Amazonica
You’ll fly from Lima to Puerto Maldonado. This once booming rubber town is surrounded by some of the world's most pristine rainforests. The only way to reach your jungle hideaway is by boat along the rushing Madre de Dios river. Here you’ll find a land of riotous colour and extraordinary wildlife. You’ll be guided along the high canopy walkways, the perfect spot to view the Amazon's rare treats of nature.
Reserva Amazonica
Waking to a symphony of birdsong, you’ll certainly be reminded you are in the heart off one of the world's most impressive jungles. It’s also home to a remarkable wetlands system and you can explore the boardwalk over these rainforest swamps and see the transition of the rainforest ecosystem too. This afternoon there’s a tranquil boat trip to Lake Sandoval, where you’ll get up close and personal with rare wildlife.
Reserva Amazonica - Sacred Valley
Leaving the rainforest behind, you’ll fly back across Peru to Cusco and be transported to the tranquil grassy wonderland of the Sacred Valley. With its colourful markets, flower-filled plains and some of the most impressive Inca sites in the country, this Inca hotspot is sure to delight. Highlights of your explorations will include the colourful town of Pisac and the impressive Incan fortress at Ollantaytambo.
Sacred Valley
With a further day exploring the valley, you could visit charming Chinchero and take a walking tour of the verdant valley floor. The Maras Salt Mines will amaze. The Sacred Valley is also home to our very own A&K Philanthropy Project, Children of the Rainbow. Today you have time to visit this heart-warming project which offers a sunnier future to deprived children in the region.
Cusco - Salkantay Lodge
Enjoy the thrill of this alternative trek to Machu Picchu. You’ll drink in glacier views and traverse remote mountain passes. The locals will greet you along the way, giving you a glimpse into their iconic yet still much undiscovered world. Leaving Cusco by road for the Salkantay Lodge, you’ll visit the Inca ruins of Tarawasi, before starting a magnificent journey along the old Camino Real (Royal Path).

You can rest if you wish as today is used for acclimatisation but we imagine you will find this hard amongst all the splendor. Trek to glacial Lake Humantay where the more adventurous might take a dip, or you can simply gaze at Mt. Salkantay, a sacred mountain in Inca mythology.
Salkantay Lodge - Wayra Lodge
The heftiest trekking day of your Peru adventure involves an early start and a hike up the Rio Blanco valley, known as the valley of waterfalls. The valley takes us to the highest point of the trek, a pass at 4,638 metres. From here, take in views of snow-capped peaks of the Vilcabamba Range and gaze up at the glaciated south face of Mt. Salkantay which towers above.
Wayra Lodge - Colpa Lodge
The trek heads downhill through increasingly verdant scenery towards the Salkantay River. The Colpa Lodge is located at a Narnia-esque confluence of three rivers. Enjoy snow-capped mountain views as you soak in the outdoor hot tub, accompanied by bright butterflies playing amongst the orchids that litter the Lodge's land.
Colpa Lodge - Lucma Lodge
Hiking through knock-your-walking-socks-off-beautiful villages, you’ll head down to the Santa Teresa River Valley. As you trip down the pretty slopes, you’ll pass through banana and coffee plantations and learn of the local way of life. Picnic by the river and take a tour of the coffee plantation before arriving at Lucma Lodge, surrounded by its own avocado trees.
Lucma Lodge - Machu Picchu
Your last trekking day won't be an easy one but it will offer a distant but quite spectacular view of Machu Picchu. It’s all the more special because it’s a view few tourists ever glimpse. Visit the recently restored Llactapata Ruins before hopping on a train to take a bewitchingly beautiful journey through the tropical foothills of the Andes to your ultimate destination: Machu Picchu itself.
Machu Picchu - Cusco
Prepare to be transported to another world as you explore the shady walkways and magnificent lookout points of the Lost City of the Incas. Machu Picchu is an architectural masterpiece, made from expertly cut stones, cemented without mortar. Llamas roam on the grassy banks. If you’re feeling energetic you can hike up Huayna Picchu for expansive views of the mighty citadel and the valley over which it presides.
Cusco
Your tour will lead you around Cusco's cobbled streets and pretty plazas. These streets were made for walking, with everything being a civilised distance from the main Plaza de Armas. Pose for photos amongst the archways, relax in one of the city’s top-notch eateries, then head out to the Inca site of Sacsayhuaman. Overlooking the city, it’s an impressive collection of giant stones, which were placed there by the ancient Incas.
Cusco - Lima
After hopping on a flight back to Lima, enjoy your last afternoon wandering around the heart of this ancient city. Don't miss the Archaeological Museum, the Presidential Palace and Church of San Francisco. You have plenty of time to shoot off to the trendy arts district of Barranco for a sunset stroll. Here you can explore the colourful bars and charming boutiques and for which it’s so famous.
Lima - UK
Your Inca adventure has come to an end. After breakfast we’ll drive you to the airport for your direct flight home.
