Highlights

Sustainable Costa Rica

Discover the true beauty of Costa Rica, starting in the lively capital of San José, guarded by volcanoes and rich forest. Stay at coffee plantations and rainforest lodges, travelling with sustainability in mind to support communities and leave the surreal landscapes undisturbed. Traverse lush National Parks to see volcanic craters; spot endangered species from squirrel monkeys to scarlet macaws; swim and jump into ethereal waterfalls; and ride horseback through local communities as you take in their vibrant cultures. Top it off with whale and dolphin watching for the ultimate immersive Costa Rican journey.

San José to Heredia

After flying into San José you’ll transfer to Heredia, a north-central mountain region known for its untouched beauty, extensive outdoor recreation and amenities, coffee plantations and stunning volcanoes – as well as its urban centre. The city is one of the oldest in the country and offers a slower, more relaxed pace of life than San José.

Poas Volcano National Park & Doka Estate Coffee Farm

Today, head to Poas Volcano, a National Park recognised as one of the most active and visited volcanoes in Costa Rica, with a crater measuring 1.5 km in diameter. After, make a stop for some local delicacies such strawberries and cheeses. Then, visit one of the largest coffee plantations in Costa Rica where you will learn everything about the estate and the cultivation, harvesting, and roasting of the golden bean.

Transfer to Manuel Antonio

Today you will continue to your beach destination, stopping at Carara National Park to see orchids and the magnificent scarlet macaw in their natural habitat. Manuel Antonio on the central Pacific coast is home to wild beaches and a rainforest teeming with wildlife. Explore this gorgeous region with adventure tours, farm-to-table dining or a rejuvenating treatment at one of the local spas – finishing off your evening in lively Quepos, a former fishing town.

Eco Chontales Waterfall Tour

The adventure begins along the coast with epic views of the Pacific. You’ll traverse the canyon, coming face to face with views of the majestic 150-foot waterfall. Enjoy everything Eco Chontales has to offer, from quiet swimming holes and areas perfect for taking photographs to a mini water slide and places to jump from. For those looking to relax, there are spots to lay down a towel and unwind in the middle of the jungle.

Manuel Antonio National Park

Today enjoy a privately guided walk of the National Park. Experience white sandy beaches, rocky outcrops, turquoise coves and rainforests, home to an abundance of wildlife – Islands and inlets just offshore in the Park’s marine territory provide an important refuge for seabirds. You'll have the rest of the afternoon to enjoy the hotel facilities, or you can contribute to the local community and its conservation efforts.

Manuel Antonio to Golfito

After an early breakfast, meet your A&K Guide at the reception to travel to Golfito, where lush rainforests meet tranquil waters. You'll embark on thrilling eco-adventures, navigating through dense canopies and encountering vibrant wildlife. Unwind on pristine beaches and try your hand at the many water sports on offer before immersing yourself in the laid-back local culture and colourful markets of this charming town.

Dolphin & whale watching

Today will certainly be a day to remember. Early in the morning, head offshore to look for whales and dolphins. As whales can be seen here around nine months of the year (August to April), there is always a good chance of catching a glimpse of one, so get your camera ready to capture these magical moments. After the tour, you will return to the hotel to enjoy some time at leisure.

At leisure

Today is yours to spend at leisure to continue enjoying this wonderful place or to relax at the facilities that your lodge has to offer. Please enquire about the optional activities on offer, from a bioluminescence expedition and Río Esquinas mangrove kayaking to joining a mindful movement session.

Transfer to Perez Zeledón

After breakfast, depart for the final leg of your journey towards Perez Zeledón, nestled amidst Costa Rica's lush Brunca region. Known for its staggering array of biodiversity, microclimates and lofty peaks (including Costa Rica's tallest, 12,500-foot Cerro Chirripó), it offers exhilarating outdoor activities, from hikes through pristine forests to waterfall explorations. Unwind in a cozy lodge that blends seamlessly with its surroundings and savour the local cuisine.

Biking tour

The day of real active adventure begins. Depart from La Hacienda on an electric mountain bike with your local guide leading the way. Ride through the surrounding colourful communities – Santa María, Arco Iris, and San Pedrito – which give insight into local life and showcase the scenic natural sites including rivers, mountains and valleys. The trails can keep you active for up to four hours, all with the help of your electric bike.

Horse riding

Depart this morning for a horseback riding activity along the paths and trails of this beautiful landscape while observing some of the wonders of the tropical rainforest. Each ride provides an opportunity to connect with the scenery of La Hacienda in an authentic and undisruptive way.

Depart

Enjoy your last Costa Rican breakfast at Hacienda AltaGracia and spend your day at leisure before meeting your A&K Driver for your final transfer to San Jose and your overnight flight home.
