Highlights

Footsteps of Tranquillity

This tour of India is quite beautifully a balm for the soul. It affords you the opportunity to witness spectacular events like the closing ceremony at sunset of the India-Pakistan border in Wagah. It also opens doors for you to leisurely explore the extraordinary Golden Temple while in Amritsar. Or to experience the unique toy train, meandering the hillsides between Shimla and Kandaghat. Drink chai tea in the company of a family in Dharamshala to understand their lifestyle and heritage and then in Chandigarh, discover unique sculptures at the Rock Gardens. Let your spirit be calmed and senses cleansed.

UK – Delhi

Maximise your time with an overnight flight to Delhi.

Delhi

Your A&K representative will meet you at Delhi airport and organise your private vehicle transfer to your hotel. The Oberoi Hotel Gurgaon is a brand new, contemporary hotel oozing style and luxury. Sitting within the prime business and shopping districts of Gurgaon, the Oberoi is an oasis of calm and tranquillity, enclosed by landscaped gardens featuring sleek pools, reflecting its unique surroundings. You’ll stay for one night before flying to Amritsar tomorrow.

Delhi – Amritsar

Today a flight of just over an hour takes you from Delhi to Amritsar before a transfer to the Taj Swarna, your next hotel. This luxurious property is the perfect base from which to explore Amritsar, home of the famous Golden Temple, the spiritual centre for Sikhs around the world. Choose to luxuriate in the spa or take it easy by the pool, or venture out to the city’s shopping area right next to the hotel where you can pick up some traditional Punjabi goods to take home.

Amritsar

Enjoy a city tour of Amritsar, founded by the fourth Sikh guru and home of the glorious Golden Temple – the sacred shrine of the Sikhs. Visit Jallianwala Bagh and the beautiful Rambagh Gardens, Khalsa and Glency Medical Colleges and the Durgiana Temple. At dusk, travel to Wagah and witness the closing ceremony at sunset of the India-Pakistan border. The changing of the guards is carried out with great pomp, in perfect drill. Watch them bring down their respective national flags, to final thunderous applause.

Amritsar – Dharamshala

Your trip by private vehicle to Dharamshala to your next hotel takes about five hours. Chonor House is a unique residence, part of the Nobulingka artistic community. This provides a home and an economy for Tibetan exiles. Set away from the town’s bustle and blending with the natural hillside surroundings, this hotel is beautifully decorated and serves excellent international cuisine. It is also near the  Thekchen Chöling Temple and HH the Dalai Lama’s residence.

Dharamshala

Today you will enjoy a full-day tour of Dharamshala. Start off with a walking tour around the outskirts of this farming village. There is ample opportunity to observe and understand how families here live and earn their living. To better comprehend the traditional way of life, you can take some chai tea with a local family in their home and then complete the day with a trip to a Buddhist monastery. Here you can watch the monks as they engage in debates and different activities.

Dharamshala – Shimla

Today’s transfer takes around seven hours but is a wonderful opportunity to soak up the beauty of this region. The snow-crowned Himalayan hills and green grasses surrounding Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh, are superb. This is one of India’s most famous hill resorts. Traffic is banned from the central part of town, walking is the way of life here. Indulge at the Oberoi Wildflower Hall – a unique example of how to refresh, relax and rejuvenate from beautiful sunrise to breath-taking sunset.

Kandaghat

Today’s highlight is a trip on the toy train from Shimla to Kandaghat – known as one of the most beautiful railways of the world. In Shimla, take time to tour the streets. This town is often called the 'Queen of Hill Stations'. Located at an altitude of 2,130 metres, Shimla sits in awe-inspiring forests of pine, rhododendron and oak, yet is true to its colonial era, with many buildings styled in Tudorbethan and neo-gothic architecture.

Shimla

Spend today at your leisure. Choose to revive your body with nature walks, rafting, cycling or yoga, or relax and rejuvenate with an exclusive spa therapy.

Shimla – Chandigarh

Today your private vehicle will take you to Oberoi Sukhvilas in Chandigarh. This is a new and unique luxury resort, surrounded by over 3,230 hectares of protected, natural forest at the foothills of the outer Himalayas. This accommodation blends traditional Indian architecture with chic, modern design elements. Time in the spa is unmissable. Here you can experience Ayurveda, Eastern, Western and signature Oberoi massage therapies, hydrotherapy, steam and infrared sauna, a Turkish hammam scrub or a Roman tepidarium.

Chandigarh

Today you will enjoy a half-day sightseeing tour of Chandigarh, starting at the famous Rock Gardens, where sculptures are created from junk. Built around these works of art are museums and galleries, the largest rose garden in Asia and the more adventurous water sport base of Sukhna Lake. Travel on from here to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Capitol Complex. This is one of Le Corbusier’s greatest achievements, encompassing the region’s Legislative Assembly, the Secretariat and the High Court.

Chandigarh - Delhi

It’s back to Delhi from Chandigarh to Delhi today for your last overnight stay at the Oberoi Hotel Gurgaon.
