Highlights

Grizzly bear watching at Knight Inlet

Spend four glorious days exploring the stunning landscapes of rural Canada. Leave the big city behind for the cool waters of Campbell River, Glendale River and the stunning Knight Inlet Lodge. From here, the open wilderness invites you to explore and to meet some of its most elusive residents. Observe whale, sea lion, dolphin, eagle and – of course – grizzly bear.

Exploring Canada’s wild west

Begin this exciting adventure with a short scenic flight from the bustling city of Vancouver to the Campbell River on the north shore of Vancouver Island. As you soar high above the landscape look out for local wildlife such as orca and humpback whale, double-crested cormorant and the majestic bald eagle. Renowned as the salmon capital of the world, this settlement is the perfect place for an afternoon of fishing. Alternatively, stroll along the riverbank and soak up the waterside tranquillity.

A haven in the wilderness

Today, board a seaplane for an exciting flight to the mouth of the Glendale River and Knight Inlet Lodge. This remote village occupies a unique location, floating in a sheltered cove amid the greenery of the vast Great Bear Rainforest. Grizzly bear come in their numbers to enjoy the abundant salmon in this part of the river. Cruise the river with your guide, observing these fascinating animals in the wild. In late August, use the viewing stands to watch the bear as they feed.

Observe fascinating Canadian wildlife

Spend today searching for some of Canada’s rarest animals. Train your eyes on the skies to see bald eagle, turkey vulture and red-tailed hawk swooping above the old-growth forest of the Kwalate Valley. Cruise the blue waters of the Johnstone Strait to witness dolphin, seal, sea lion and whale gliding through the waves. Visit the orca sanctuary of Robson Bight Ecological Reserve, home to 16 orca pods from mid-July. Eagle-eyed observers may even catch a glimpse of the elusive Roosevelt elk through the trees.

One last day in paradise

This morning, savour your final moments with the stunning wildlife of Knight Inlet. Head out to see the grizzly bear or hike through the lush landscape to discover local flora and fauna. Afterwards, board your seaplane back to the Campbell River and meet your transfer to Vancouver. From here, you may wish to continue your adventure in beautiful British Columbia.
