Madikwe Safari Holidays

The 75,000 hectare Madikwe Game Reserve is situated in the far north of the North West Province of South Africa and borders with Botswana. Created from the biggest translocation project of animals in 1991, the reserve is now home to 66 large mammals species, including the 'Big Five' and approximately 300 resident and migrant bird species. It is one of South Africa's largest game reserves with areas of open plains and woodland and is dissected by escarpments, making it incredibly diverse for the beautiful animals that live there. Many of the lodges that we use have specialist child-friendly safari programmes which are both fun and educational. Madikwe is effortlessly accessible via a three hour drive or a short flight from Johannesburg.

The Waterberg has been described as South Africa's best keep secret. Its rugged beauty, together with its diversity in plant and animal life, has led to the development of several exciting eco-tourism projects such as the biosphere reserve, the Waterberg Nature Conservancy and the amalgamation of conservation areas in order to protect more than 150,000 hectares of the Waterberg-habitat.
