About Siobhan
After a gap year exploring Southern Africa, Australia, New Zealand and South-East Asia, I was hooked on travel. When I got home, going back to my graduate day job – writing about things like five-axis machining – wasn’t going to cut it, so when a travel writing role came up, I jumped at the chance. That was over 10 years ago, and I wouldn’t want to do anything else.
On my travels, you'll usually find me where the wild things are: spotting big cats on safari or looking out for wild dolphins. If I'm in a city, chances are I’ll be checking out a charming bookshop or beautiful old building.
I see it as my job to get across what a place or experience is really like, to inspire people to get out there and have their own unforgettable trips.
Talking points
What's your favourite destination?
Overall, probably New Zealand. It has that magical feeling you can’t quite put your finger on. But the Masai Mara, Monument Valley, the Maldives and Laos are right up there too. It’s all about big skies for me – Vegas was a surprise hit in that respect.
Which destination is top of your bucket list, and why?
Western Australia, for its epic wildlife and remote beaches. I’d love to campervan up the coast from Perth to Ningaloo and on to the Dampier Peninsula.
How many languages do you speak?
Put it this way – you’d never guess that I did A-level French.
Which five items do you always pack when travelling?
Earphones, sunglasses, mozzie spray, lip balm and a shawl (which doubles up as a little blanket). What's your top travel tip?
Pack a holiday outfit and swimwear in your hand luggage. That way, if you make it to your destination on time but your suitcase doesn’t, you won’t feel quite as held up.
