Highlights
Classic Botswana
Start this itinerary in Livingstone so you can experience the sights and sounds of Victoria Falls. What would an African adventure to this region be without a trip to these waterfalls, after all. Another key highlight is the exploration of Chobe National Park, renowned for its vast herds of elephant and an array of other wildlife. On a sunset river cruise, you’ll get up close to crocodile, hippo and a huge range of birdlife. Next the predator capital of Africa, Moremi Game Reserve, offers the chance to see some of Africa’s rarest creatures in their natural habitat. The thrills continue as you glide down the wildlife-rich Okavango River in a traditional mokoro canoe.
An overnight flight from the UK to Johannesburg ensures you have as much time as possible for the sights and experiences on your Botswana holiday.
Johannesburg – Livingstone
Fly the short hop from Johannesburg to Livingstone. Your African adventure begins with a two-night stay at Sanctuary Sussi & Chuma. You’ll be in prime position on a dramatic bend of the Zambezi. This evening embark on a sunset river cruise. Float down the river keeping a keen eye out for wildlife including elephant, who come to the riverbanks to drink.
Victoria Falls
Wake up to the incredible noise of the chortling hippos. After a hearty breakfast, it’s off to the 'Smoke that Thunders' to see the crashing Victoria Falls. Relax this afternoon, enjoy a spa treatment by the Zambezi, try your hand at fishing or visit a local school. Dinner tonight will be served under the African stars.
Livingstone- Chobe
This morning, you’ll cross the border into Botswana where your safari adventure begins. Chobe National Park bursts with wildlife, much of which centres on the life-giving waters of its river. You’ll be in prime position in the Sanctuary Chobe Chilwero lodge, which has a split-level pool, gourmet food and a spa. From here you can watch the sun set over the hippo-filled waterway, teeming flood plains and the endless wilderness beyond.
Chobe
As you head out on a sunrise safari you’ll see the animals come to life. Around 50,000 elephant roam here, alongside buffalo and plenty of other creatures too. After a late morning rest, a mid-afternoon double-decker boat cruise awaits you. Sip a sundowner as you float down the river amid crocodile, hippo and a striking array of birdlife.
Chobe - Okavango Delta
An air transfer will land you on a vast sweep of the Okavango Delta, close to Moremi. Here, walking safaris enable close encounters with the bush at its best. You can stay at Sanctuary Baines' Camp (five exclusive rooms) or at Sanctuary Stanley's Camp (a private eight-tent lodge). In both you’ll feel fully immersed in this matchless wilderness.
Okavango Delta
From the deck of your tent (Sanctuary Stanley’s) or from the comfort of a four-poster bed, rolled out onto the deck for a night beneath the stars (Sanctuary Baines’), you’ll awake to the sounds of the Delta. Safari drives, mokoro canoe trips and walking safaris with buffalo, giraffe and lion lie ahead.
Okavango Delta - Moremi
We’ll fly you into the heart of the Okavango and Moremi Game Reserve. The 'predator capital of Africa’ is a haven of lagoons, flooded pans and sweeping grasslands. The finest game-viewing spot is Chief's Island, seasonally surrounded by either glittering waters or grassy plains. Your home for two nights will be the exclusive Sanctuary Chief's Camp, a cluster of 12 private pavilions.
Moremi
Raised above the surrounding wilderness, Sanctuary Chief's Camp makes the ideal HQ for forays into the Moremi. You’ll see abundant wildlife, including rarer species such as cheetah, leopard and even wild dog. Morning and evening safari drives show off Botswana at its best, and if the water's high enough, you can continue to master your mokoro canoe technique.
Moremi - Maun - UK
On the short return flight to Maun, you’ll have ample time to gaze down at the drama of the Delta for one last time. From here, a flight to Johannesburg will connect with your overnight flight back to the UK.
