Get up close and personal to orphan elephants when you feed them a bottle of milk during a private tour of a wildlife haven in northern Kenya.
Your half-day experience will start at 07.30 when you take off from Lewa airstrip. The 30-minute trip will take you over the sweeping plains of Samburu National Reserve to Reteti Elephant Sanctuary located on the Namunyak Wildlife Conservancy.
After your light aircraft lands at the private airstrip, you will be served with a hearty breakfast beneath the shade of the wing. You will then be paired with a keeper who will give you a private behind-the-scenes tour of the sanctuary and answer any questions.
From a special viewing platform, you can watch the elephants come in from their walk to receive their bottles and enjoy mud-hole playtime. This is the moment you can get up close to these young gentle giants and will have the chance to feed them.
Learn how each elephant needs eight bottles of formulated milk each day and two bed-time blankets. This is funded through donations both locally and by visitors. As they say at Reteti, “It takes a village to raise a calf.”
Once you have bid farewell to the elephants and orphan giraffes, that also live at the sanctuary, you will be flown back to Lewa and transferred to your lodge.
