Head to the summit of Table Mountain with a private guide and discover the Platteklip Gorge. The trail is flanked on either side by the rock formations Devil’s Peak and Lion’s Head. Depending on your fitness level the trek can take between 90 minutes or more than two hours. Take time to marvel at the views over Table Bay towards Robben Island while admiring the varieties of protea (national flower) and awesome rock face of the gorge.
Your reward for reaching the summit is a panoramic view down to the beaches of Clifton and Camps Bay and the majestic Twelve Apostles. A welcoming committee is likely to consist of few dassies (rock hyrax) who will not mind posing for a selfie with you.
Take the chance to wander the walkways and learn more about this UNESCO Cape Floral Region World Heritage Site. Then it’s time to hop onto a cable car, which revolves 360 degrees, and begin your panoramic descent.
Additional notes about the tour
The half-day hike is a morning activity. The hike is subject to weather conditions as Table Mountain is prone to being covered by a white cloud known locally as the “table cloth”. A head for heights and stout pair of walking shoes is recommended. You can liaise with your guide on the route which may depend on your fitness level. Bottled water is provided. The cable car ticket is included in the price.
