Whale-watching and wine-tasting in Hermanus bring the South African coast to life
The Whale Coast is South Africa at its most epic.
Your Hermanus holiday will base you in what was once a quiet fishing village but today is world-renowned as the best place there is to whale-watch. From June to November each year, pods of southern right whales swim to the coast to mate and calve. You can actually see them from land but we’ll take you to the best spots to observe them closely. We’ll even introduce you to the world's only Whale Crier, who signals whale locations using a kelp horn.
There’s plenty to do after the whales have gone. Secluded, rock-sheltered coves and long, sandy beaches are perfect for strolling along. The mountains behind Hermanus are ideal for hiking in to admire the beautiful views of Walker Bay.
Some of South Africa’s boutique vineyards are here too. On your holiday in Hermanus you can visit the stunning Hemel en Aarde Valley. Here you can enjoy a glass or two while you drink in the scenery.
