Take to the waters of Nyerere National Park (formally The Selous Game Reserve) for a wildlife cruise. Don’t forget your camera to capture the memorable sights from wallowing hippo to thirsty elephant. You’ll witness these amazing travel moments from a new perspective when you hop on board the boat to view the animals and bird life around Siwandu camp.
Home of Africa’s rare wild dog, this uninhabited wilderness ebbs and flows with the seasonal rains. The half-day trip will take you across Lake Nzerakera or, when the rains have fallen, along the tributaries of the Rufiji River delta. June to October tend to be dry and warm which means the animals are drawn to the waters of the lake.
Relax in the shade of covered canopies of the pontoon boat as you observe the rich variety of wildlife living in this reserve including; lion, giraffe, zebra and sable antelope. Enjoy a sundowner alongside the other animals that gather along the river bank.
Additional notes about the tour
This is an afternoon activity which takes place from Siwandu camp. It will start out following afternoon tea at the lodge and return for evening drinks around the camp fire. The best time of year is February to March. The channel tends to dry up from June to December (depending on the rains). Life jackets are available for adults and compulsory for children. As this is a malaria zone please take the necessary precautions.
