Animal attraction
During a honeymoon safari to Tanzania and Zanzibar, experience the wildlife and prepare to be blown away by the sheer variety and abundance of animal life in this East African country. Tanzania is home to the Big Five, soda lakes filled with flamingos and playful chimpanzee frolicking in the forests. The Ngorongoro Crater is like the Garden of Eden; a natural barrier encircling the wildlife that roams the crater floor, it affords amazing game viewing. Whilst here, toast your new life as a married couple during a picnic with a view.
During the winter and spring months, the Great Migration passes through the southern Serengeti. Bed down at the Sanctuary Kichakani Serengeti Camp, ideally placed to witness this natural spectacle. Watch the sunset from high up on a kopje, overlooking the vast plains as wildebeest and gazelle gather by their thousands. For another angle, enjoy a romantic balloon safari over this spectacular national park.
Away from the more established parks, the ‘southern circuit’ parks of the Nyerere National Park (formally The Selous Game Reserve) and Ruaha are a rugged and untamed rival to the busier north. Here it is rawer, wilder and emptier. Southern Tanzania is extolled as the ‘real deal’: authentic and off the usual tourist trail. Selous is famed for an abundant population of hippo, giraffe, cheetah and leopard. Ruaha is known for its elephant and buffalo – who perform a mini-migration every year. Explore these areas by vehicle boat, or – for the more adventurous – by foot.
Heart of stone
Beyond its wildlife, Tanzania has an intriguing culture and several fascinating industries. Tanzanite jewellery is a big export, and we can arrange a visit to a jeweller if you would like to see how the precious stones are cut and transformed into the magnificent finished product.
Zanzibar
Zanzibar honeymoons: the exotic island of Zanzibar is an ideal place to end your first holiday as a married couple, with a few days to relax and explore the rich history of the ‘spice island’. Stay at A&K Favourites, Zawadi or Baraza Resort and Spa. Visit the markets of Stone Town and dine on delicious Zanzibarian cuisine. For some quality time together, luxuriate on a private dhow cruise along the crystal-clear seas here.
