Visit Lijiang and cruise on the rivers of the Venice of the Orient
Long renowned as ‘the Venice of the Orient’, the atmosphere of Lijiang is every bit as unique as its architecture and its place in Chinese history. On your Lijiang holiday you can experience its pure ethnic charm that led to its deserved designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
It is a pleasure to walk through the cobblestone streets of the Old Town, which date back over 800 years. There is a dizzying array of ancient canals, narrow lanes and bridges here that were crafted in the Ming and Qing dynasties.
On your Lijiang holiday, you can also trace the path of the streams leading into the Old Town back to their source at the famously picturesque Black Dragon Pool.
Elsewhere in Yunnan province, other sites to visit include the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. This sacred sanctuary has protected the Naxi ethnic minorities and their unique cultures since ancient times. The mountain itself stretches for 35km and the stunning landscape that surrounds it includes the most southerly glacier in the northern hemisphere.
Lijiang is unique. Uniquely atmospheric, uniquely picturesque and uniquely delightful.
