The tropical and cultural wonderland of a Xishuangbanna tour awaits
On your bespoke tour of Xishuangbanna you will be closer to Laos and Myanmar than you will be to Beijing, Shanghai or Xi’an. This culturally fascinating region of Yunnan is where you can get out there and experience both the people and the landscapes.
It is home to 13 of the country’s 26 ethnic minorities and equally rich in its tropical and monsoon forests. As part of your trip to Xishuangbanna you can visit the Mengyang Nature Reserve to see the majestic Asiatic elephant, take a day cruise on the Mekong River or dazzle your senses on a river trip from Jinghong all the way to Chiang Sai in Thailand.
In Daluo Town you can see a 900 year old banyan tree which covers an area of 120m2 and has over thirty strand roots. For more floral rarities there is the Tropical Botanical Garden, one of the largest in the world, hosting 35 different garden habitats and featuring over 10,000 species of tropical plants.
You can experience some of the local cultures at the morning market at Mengla, which draws crowds of reclusive tribes from the Chinese-Myanmar border. Our guides can get you much closer to the cultures of the region on a hike to a Bulang village, set deep in the monsoonal forest. We can also arrange for you to participate in the festive traditions of a Water Dai village or spend time with an upland Aini village and listen to how their storytelling traditions help maintain their traditions and way of life.
