During Kyoto’s time in power, temples and shrines were continuously constructed for the emperors, shoguns, geishas and monks. Kyoto thankfully escaped heavy bombing in WWII, so much of the city’s historic and cultural legacy is intact. Kyoto also offers more modern architectural marvels, like the mammoth futuristic glass edifice of Kyoto Station complex.
Kyoto is at its most atmospheric when the delicate sakura (cherry blossoms) bloom in spring. This happens in the last week of March and the first two weeks of April. This short window of opportunity makes it a very popular time to visit. Book early to see just how achingly beautiful the city becomes. Alternatively you can consider a visit in autumn (October to mid-December) when you can catch a riot of rich reds and oranges painting a magical picture.
Kyoto may be a popular destination choice, but on your bespoke holiday, we will reveal the hidden beauty to be found beyond the Kyoto’s well-trodden paths.
