Temples, jungles and beaches in the pearl of the Orient
Penang has long been considered one of the best destinations in South-east Asia, with its pristine beaches, exotic temples, rich wildlife and thriving food scene.
On your Penang holiday it can be tempting to spend all your time relaxing on the idyllic beaches, but there are many other attractions you really shouldn’t miss.
Your Penang tour could take you to some of the island’s many temples, like the Snake Temple, whose serpentine inhabitants are said to have moved in on the very night of it’s completion and have remained here ever since. The Kek Lok Si temple, at Air Itam, is one of the largest and most beautiful temple complexes in South-east Asia, with its imposing seven-storey pagoda, standing over 90ft high and blending Chinese, Burmese and Thai architecture and craftsmanship.
A walk through the Pantai Acheh Forest Reserve’s stunning trails will lead you to secluded beaches, as well as taking you past rare flora, wild monkey, hunting sea eagle and, if you’re lucky, maybe a glimpse of a Hawksbill turtle heading out to the sea.
