Indulge in decadence at upmarket Port Douglas
From the reef to the rainforest, Port Douglas is your gateway to some of Australia’s highlights. A few days here will be as varied as you can make them.
In the town itself, spend a good few hours wandering through the many shops and interesting local designer boutiques. The town’s restaurants pride themselves on high-quality cuisine and the proficient use of local fare. The town also boasts the wonderful Four Mile Beach which has more than enough space for everyone who wants to enjoy its palm-edged white sands, and world-class golf courses.
Port Douglas is certainly an exclusive holiday destination and the resorts here are first-class. The main town has a great selection of accommodation and something to suit everyone.
The surrounding areas of Port Douglas also deliver holiday delights. The outer edge of the Great Barrier Reef can be reached in less than an hour for amazing diving experiences. There are inland adventures in the Daintree National Park. Here you can take part in jungle surfing, the Skyrail cableway and experience the wet tropics rainforest up close. The fauna here has a feel of Jurassic Park about it as well – there are tree-living kangaroo, half of Australia's bird species, a third of its mammals and frogs, a quarter of its reptiles and more than 12,000 insects. If you want to meet the Aussie wildlife, this is the place to do it.
