Montpelier has been restored in keeping with its heritage and maintains its peaceful plantation-home feeling. Shrouded in history, the plantation lies on a sixty-acre estate up in the hills of Nevis, looking down over the sea. There are just 19 rooms, meaning Montpelier retains an intimate, homely feel, yet modern art and amenities, such as flat screen TVs and iPod docking stations, add a layer of individuality and luxury which contrasts perfectly with the history of the property and the surrounding nature. Unusually for a plantation house in the hills, Montpelier has a private beach just a short ride away and complimentary transport is provided.
Montpelier Beach is situated within a hidden cove on one of the island's best and prettiest stretches, 15 minutes from the plantation. The hotel arranges complimentary transport and is only 30 minutes transfer by water taxi from St Kitts when arriving directly from London. Once at the beach, six private cabanas offer shade and complete seclusion. The heart of the hotel is now at the ultra-stylish Indigo's bar and restaurant by the pool. Here, the barmen serve rum-infused molecular cocktails and the tasty new menu includes delicious sharing platters.
The cuisine at Montpelier focuses on fresh, local fruits, vegetables, poultry and fish. Enjoy lunch or afternoon tea by the pool, or request a picnic for the beach, which the kitchen will happily prepare for you. Restaurant 750 is an AAA Four Diamond restaurant offering al fresco dining with fabulous views in an unobtrusive atmosphere. Alternatively, enjoy a dinner at The Mill, a 300-year-old sugar mill with original steps, floor and cut stone walls. Should you like to head out and explore the island, kayaks and mountain bikes can be provided.
