Natural beauty and a rich Mayan heritage
A pristine forest reserve covering the northwest portion of the Maya Mountains in Western Belize, Mountain Pine Ridge is one of the most beautiful regions of the country. On a Mountain Pine Ridge holiday you can explore the gently undulating landscape by foot or by bike. Walk in its undisturbed pine forests, admire the valleys of lush hardwood trees filled with butterfly, orchids and bromeliads and take in sweeping views in Belize’s oldest and largest park.
There are waterfalls and limestone caves and tranquil picnic sites too. As you go, keep your eyes peeled for king vulture, orange-breasted falcon and the other colourful birds that call the park home. Other rarer wildlife here include jaguar, cougar and tapir.
During your tour of Mountain Pine Ridge you can also discover the ruined Mayan city of Caracol. In its heyday, the city was home to over 100,000 people. Today you can still get a good idea of its ornate architecture, mysterious culture and impressive scale.
