An enchanting town of fairytales and festivals
Our Salzburg holidays will transport you to a place of storybook magic watched over by a mighty cliff-top fortress. With its quirky architecture and the music of Mozart, the city is indeed a Baroque jewel in Austria's crown. We particularly like the way the town is small enough to wander around yet still accessible for the surrounding mountains. You can quickly and easily explore further-afield by bicycle or on foot. It’s the perfect combination of cultural joy and scenery to stir the soul.
Wandering around the Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, you’ll see onion-domed churches and towering spires. There are picturesque squares perfect for a coffee and apfel strudel and winding alleyways lined with eccentric buildings. But Salzburg is embracing modernity too with a cluster of contemporary art museums and Michelin-starred restaurants. And those mountain views aren’t just for walkers and cyclists. Hop aboard the funicular up to the Hozensalzburg Fortress and you can look out across the city to the soaring peaks beyond.
History buffs may want to travel a little further to see the 450-year-old salt mines at Berchtesgaden and the Eagle's Nest, Hitler's mountain retreat. And of course, a Salzburg tour would not be complete without The Sound of Music, and we can arrange a private visit to the Von Trapp villa for you. If classical music is more your thing we suggest you visit Getreidegasse where Mozart was born. Or why not let us organise your visit for festival season for a magical mixture of operas, plays and concerts?
