Santa Claus and the northern lights
Considered Finland’s glistening gateway to the north, a holiday in Rovaniemi will take you to the capital of Finnish Lapland, the official residence of Santa Claus himself. While the town is small, this makes it a prime location for seeing the northern lights, making a Rovaniemi tour high on many visitors’ bucket lists.
Whilst in Rovaniemi we can show you the town’s stunning riverside location and all the best spots to get your camera snapping. Much of Rovaniemi was destroyed during World War II, and it is said that the main streets were rebuilt in the shape of a reindeer.
Given the town’s proximity to the north of the country, it also offers the perfect spot to witness the amazing display of coloured lights known as the aurora borealis. While lesser-known than some of Finland’s larger cities, Rovaniemi makes the ideal base for visiting Lapland and Finland’s Arctic Circle. And keep your eyes peeled for a large, rotund man with a flowing white beard, dressed in red.
