Pan Deï Palais hides a cultural love story behind its traditional, shuttered exterior. Guests will be surprised to find a Saint Tropez-India infusion inside – the result of a romance between a 19th-century British general and an Indian princess...
Bespoke ornate furniture carved from dark hardwood is a throwback to a past Raj era, mirrored in the shape of the dining chairs and complemented by woven rugs. There are splashes of India in the colour palette, too – from warm yellow to deep scarlet – but the overall theme is neutral and earthy. The 17 rooms and suites are named after important Hindu figures and gods, and have indulgent four-poster beds dressed in white linen, stylish en-suites and views of Saint Tropez.
Outside, the pool would look more at home in the grounds of an Indian palace, with mosaic tiles reminiscent of a royal pond or fountain. Cushioned loungers and cream parasols set the scene perfectly, neighboured by gently swaying palms, for a walled garden that’s the epitome of serene – despite sitting in the heart of the Old Town and being only a short stroll from Pampelonne Beach - one the of most famous stretches of sand in Saint Tropez.
The hotel’s restaurant Les Délices du Pan Deï is an all-time favourite in Saint-Tropez, with a flamboyant Mediterranean menu that focuses on seasonal produce and short supply chains. There’s also a bar if you fancy an end-of-day drink in a wooded garden, with plenty of other noteworthy eateries reachable on foot.
