Nearby, the Frauenkirche cathedral has become emblematic of the city, with its dome-topped towers. The Church of the Asam Brothers is one of the finest examples of Baroque architecture in Europe.
Beyond Munich, the Black Forest is one of Germany's most picturesque regions. Here, you can see famous medieval villages and the university town of Freiburg. Visit Nymphenburg Palace, once the summer residence of the rulers of Bavaria. And, if it’s fairy-tales you’re after, look no further that the magical Neuschwanstein Castle. It attracts visitors from near and far, so go early in the day. Make sure you find time to walk to the Marienbrucke, crossing a deep gorge, to get the best view of the castle.
