Marvel at the sight of Ljótipollur a beautiful crater lake, which is not truly represented by its name, which literally means “ugly pond”. Formed in 1477 in an explosive eruption it lies in the Fjallabak Nature Reserve. Capture the stunning blue waters, green vegetation and contrasting vivid red lava rock on camera to share with family and friends.
After your road trip relax by a taking a dip in the natural hot springs of Landmannalaugar. Known as the “People’s Pools”. The town nestles beside the black Laugahraun lava field and is famous for its mineral-rich waters one of which is Bláhylur lake, a magnificent body of water nestling in a dormant volcanic crater.
