Why we like it
- Nestled in the hills overlooking Florence, but still within a reasonable distance of the city centre
- Part of a collection of preferred hotels and resorts, a trusted resource for finding the worlds finest hotels
- A long history of owners, which has been studied and is very much a part of the hotel’s character
About Il Salviatino
Il Salviatino stands proudly on the hillside of Fiesole, just outside Florence’s busy centre. This grand 15th-century villa – considerately restored – is the perfect place to retreat after a day exploring the city.
From the entrance hall through to the 44 individually decorated rooms, the property is brimming with characterful ornaments, paintings and antique furnishings. Il Salviatino’s history is always on show, but contemporary flourishes and features make it feel timeless.
Outside, the sprawling terrace with its urns, flowers and water features is a picturesque vantage point. Gaze out over the bushy treetops to the Florentine rooftops beyond. You can even see the dome of the city’s famous Cathedral from here.
For a little personalised pampering, head to the spa. There are a range of relaxing treatments available, from facials to aromatherapy sessions, ensuring any stress you arrived with is promptly soothed away. During the balmy months of summer and autumn, you can also unwind in the two-tiered outdoor swimming pool.
At Il Salviatino’s restaurant, La Cucina – or “The Kitchen”, sample the organic fruits and vegetables harvested from the hotel’s garden. The menu here celebrates simplicity and flavour, with a focus on Tuscan specialities.
Daily excursions to see Florence’s cultural treasures are easy: simply hire a car or hop on the hotel’s shuttle service. After a day of exploring, retreat from the hustle and bustle to the comfort of your room for the perfect Tuscan nightcap – a glass of local Chianti. After all, when in Florence, do as the Florentians do.
