Rise early and meet with your English-speaking driver-guide, before you are transferred to a local farm in Asciano. This charming hilltop town is famed for its annual white truffle festival. Deep within the countryside surrounding Siena, getting outdoors is the perfect way to experience Tuscany’s culinary traditions. Meet with an experienced tartufaio (or truffle hunter) and his faithful dogs, and let the hunt begin.
This experience takes place in an exclusive reserve, one of the few areas in the world where this rare and precious tuber is found. As you wander through the woods, observe the behaviour of the dogs, which are specially trained to use their powerful nose to locate this delightful underground delicacy.
Since this is a real hunt, it is impossible to guarantee finding truffles. However, if you are lucky enough to collect some, you’ll soon discover why the locals take such trouble to track them down. This experience can also be tailored to include a lunch and wine tasting.
Additional notes about the tour
This experience is available between October and December, though the ideal time November, when the truffle festival is on. As well as the lunch and wine tasting, other sightseeing trips can be included.
This experience is only available to book as part of an A&K tailor-made holiday.
