This Scandi star is a design hotel that not only revels in its food culture but is a gateway to the great outdoors of Norway.
Elva Hotel & Restaurant is made up of one main building and five mini houses, containing two to three stylishly simple suites with picture windows, that overlook a tranquil lake and forested mountains beyond.
Each building takes the name of a river found near Voss and each room is named after a cascading waterfall found along those rivers. Tvinnefossen is located on the water’s edge. This private unit, named after the most spectacular waterfall in the area, has a double bed placed in the window niche and custom-built furniture from Styve Møbelsnikkeri.
While the call of the wild is never far away, it is the food that sets this boutique hotel aside from the others. The fine dining restaurant follows the seasons and serves exquisite tasting and wine pairing menus inspired by local produce from the Voss and Westland region.
Visit in autumn and you can expect a seven-course menu of pumpkin, baked tusk fish and wild mushrooms, while summer in the cosy café and bar features barbecue Bratwurst from Voss Gardsslakteri served with ratatouille.
After a day spent white-water rafting, river boarding or kayaking, Elva has a rustic wood-fired sauna and three bubbling hot tubs where you can enjoy a drink overlooking the glassy waters of the lake.
