Join local villagers for a traditional Turkish dinner in a family garden. After a visit to a mosque you’ll sit down to a meal cooked from fresh produce and learn more about life along the south-eastern Aegean coast.
Your driver will transfer from your hotel to the village where you will be met by the family who will host you during the evening. Expect to raise a glass of raki, made with grapes, figs and plums, known as ‘lion’s milk’ it clouds when water is added. You can indulge in meze, warmed by the bread oven, while grandmother cooks a batch of Turkish sweet pancakes. Finish your meal with a soothing cup of Cay (tea) served in small tulip-shaped glasses or strong black Turkish coffee brewed over hot coals and served very sweet.
During the evening you can have a go at making a hand-made carpet. Artisans will be on hand to show you how they weave the famous silk carpets which are so popular around the world. Choose your favourite to take home – the perfect souvenir to remember your night sharing dinner with a local family.
