Discover India’s golden city
It may have its roots in the 12th century, but India’s Golden City certainly has an enduring appeal. Come on a Jaisalmer adventure with us and we’ll help you unlock the wonders of this fascinating destination.
Standing amidst the expanse of the Great Thar Desert, this sand-coloured citadel was an important defence and trade town for centuries due to its strategic position on the camel trade routes. The town is now a World Heritage Site and, perched on a ridge of yellow sandstone, it’s crowned by the 800-year-old Jaisalmer Fort which has nearly one hundred turrets to defend it. One of the things we love about Jaisalmer is the way its walls, which are a yellow colour during the day, turn to a magical honey-gold as the sun sets.
This is a living fort and about a quarter of city's population still reside within its walls. Our experienced guides know the city inside out. We’ll take you inside to explore the narrow lanes and treasures that lie beyond, including the palace, the intricately carved merchant houses and several ornate Jain temples. Over the centuries, Jaisalmer has been enriched by its Jain community which has adorned the city with beautiful, elaborately engraved temples and exquisite works of art; all of which are waiting for you to discover.
