Hansraj Children’s Home is a residential girls’ school which serves around 100 children in the local area. This project is supported by A&K Philanthropy, with the aim of improving literacy rates in the area and combatting gender discrimination which makes it difficult for girls particularly to access education. The home provides free education, books, meals and clothes, as well as somewhere safe to spend the night, making it a vital resource for the area.
Most of the children here come from the tribal belts surrounding Udaipur. These rural communities are often situated far from the nearest school, creating another boundary to equal education. As you observe the good being done, hear from the girls how Hansraj Children’s Home has made a difference to their lives. You may even take part in games and other activities to help brighten up their day.
Watch as Masala chai tea and pakoras are prepared, and enjoy these refreshments as you learn more about the school. You may also learn from the girls how henna is made.
Additional notes about the tour
The home is close to the main attractions of Udaipur and can be incorporated into all itineraries. Visits can be organised anytime during the day. Wear comfortable walking shoes, especially if you participate in games and activities with the children.
