Enjoy a real taste of Morocco in its historic capital
Sitting on the Atlantic coastal plain, Morocco's capital Rabat, is a modern city complete with wide boulevards, lush gardens and whitewashed buildings. Rabat holidays offer a different kind of experience to the hectic warrens of Morocco’s other Imperial cities Marrakech and Fes. It’s a little more refined, but no less steeped in history. Its origins go back to the 7th Century.
The enchanted city is also home to many historic monuments, with some superbly preserved relics of its Moorish past. Make time to explore the must-see Mausoleum of Mohammed V, which was completed in 1971 and contains the tombs of the late Moroccan king and his two sons. Then get a taste of a Moroccan medina with a visit to the Oudaya Kasbah, built in the 16th and 17th centuries on ancient foundations, and relax in the gardens.
Travel with our guides outside the city walls to see the ancient city of Sala, the first in Morocco to be built by the Berbers. This is a great destination to twin with Fes, with further visits to Voloubilis and Meknes completing the full Moroccan experience.
