Vibrant red rocks, winding waterways and sweeping scenery
Grand Canyon National Park really is an experience like no other. Each year, over 4 million visitors flock to witness the majesty of this canyon that is 446 kilometres long, 29 kilometres wide and 1.6 kilometres deep – one the biggest in the world that is accessible to humans.
The history of this site dates back nearly 12,000 years ago to the Paleo-Indian period. Artefacts found here suggest that this rugged landscape has been in constant use ever since. Intensive land surveys have now covered 5% of the enormous park and have recorded over 4,300 archaeological sources – a must-see for history lovers.
Take a trip to the South Rim, renowned for its panoramic viewpoints including Mather Point, Yaki Point and the Desert View Watchtower. Here, make the most of the visitors centre and other guest-orientated activities. Thrill-seekers can even enjoy a guided-tour below the rim to view the wonders inside the canyon itself. The North Rim, located just ten miles away, could not be more different. Adorned with lush vegetation, this part of the canyon is a wildlife haven. Where the South is bustling with visitors, at the North Rim it is still possible to hear the call of canyon birds even on busier days.
