Take to the hills with a visit to the high-altitude village of Chinchero in the Sacred Valley. Known for its vibrant textiles, it boasts one of the prettiest markets in the region as well as being the most authentic. Watch women in traditional dress spin patterns in alpaca wool and crush leaves to create the dye. You can wander around the terraced fields, colonial architecture and churches laden with colonial-era frescoes.
Your guide will then take you to the town of Maras where its hillside saltpans glitter in the afternoon light. Spend time photographing from every angle – remember to pick up a bag of salt to take home.
Continue to the circular terraces of Moray, built from stone and in immaculate condition. Moray was believed to have been an experimentation lab where Incas would test various crops at different levels (each layer has its very own microclimate). Spend time walking around this huge earthen bowl. Afterwards, your guide will accompany you back to your hotel.
