There’s no better way to track down the Big Five than on safari in Kruger. South Africa’s first and most famous national park continues to deliver. It offers a vast game population, as well as a variety of sophisticated bush lodgings that allow for an authentic and memorable safari-holiday experience.
Kruger National Park has unfenced borders with some of South Africa’s most prestigious game reserves, including Sabi Sands and Timbavati. It is without doubt the biggest draw in the Mpumalanga region, with over 500 species of bird and more than 140 mammals making their home here. And these include the all-important Big Five of lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and Cape buffalo. Our specialist guides and unique Kruger safari itineraries ensure that you have your best chance of ticking off all five here.
We recommend taking a Kruger holiday during the dry season between May and September. This is when much of the park’s wildlife gathers around the remaining waterholes. If it is birds that you are keen to spot you should consider booking your holiday in Kruger between October and April.
If you head over to Sabi Sands you will find a high concentration of leopard. Other nearby attractions include the magnificent Blyde River Canyon, God's Window and Bourke's Luck Potholes.
