Discover the New Zealand’s North Island
Hawke’s Bay is one of the highlights of the North Island. It’s New Zealand’s oldest wine region and remains a top wine producer, making award-winning vintages. The whites are particularly good. Hawke’s Bay holidays are also great for soft adventure. If you’re into outdoor activities, you can enjoy excellent hiking as well as a clifftop golf course. Its main city, Napier, became renowned for its Art Deco architecture thanks to an earthquake in 1931 that destroyed the downtown area. A marvellous collection of buildings in the 1930s Art Deco style sprang up, and this is celebrated with a special Art Deco weekend every February. We also recommend a stroll along the tree-lined waterfront which overlooks a vast expanse of beach.
To discover New Zealand's much-loved political and cultural capital, Wellington, head to the North Island’s southernmost tip, where the lush landscape combines forest-clad hills with rolling vineyards. The city is set on an attractive harbour, with bush-clad hills all around and old wooden houses alongside glass towers. If you’re interested in wine-tasting sessions, playing a round of golf or checking out Napier’s best restaurants, we can arrange it.
