Wharekauhau Country Estate, located in Martinborough in the North Island of New Zealand, is a luxury lodge with award winning style that is recognised as one of the world's most exclusive retreats. A country estate located on a 5000 acre working farm, accommodation is provided in self-contained cottages or Estate Houses with stunning ocean views that are dotted around the estate ensuring complete privacy and spectacular views.
Each cottage or house is within easy walking distance of the main lodge, the heart of Wharekauhau. Modelled on an Edwardian country mansion, the lodge was designed by Queenstown architect Fred van Brandenburg, and it is here that clients dine and mingle. The fine design, sumptuous furnishings, exquisite tableware and outstanding cuisine all combine to satisfy the senses. Renowned for its cuisine, fresh, local produce is used, complemented by a quality wine cellar comprising the finest New Zealand wines.
There are plenty of activities available both on-site and in the surrounding countryside. Guests can choose to take a hiking trail through Wharekauhau's 5000 acres, encompassing native forest, idyllic lakes and rivers, farm land, and the breathtaking South Wairarapa coast, or for those seeking an adrenalin rush, four wheel drive safaris, horse trekking and trap shooting on Wharekauhau's private clay field are available. The internationally acclaimed Martinborough wine growing region is also an easy drive from the property.
